For those of you who missed it, a black and white version of this page was posted earlier in the weekend. If you’d like to see it, just click on the image below:
No, Topo isn’t kidding. And neither am I. What’s the difference? It tastes the same, looks the same, smells the same, feels the same…it just costs a lot more.
It looks to me like the Professa’s fish bowl is about to end up in the basket of Topo’s bike and Topo is about to end up on his rump. And Mari and Max will enjoy the mysteriously-not-the-same-as-ice-cream gelato together. Rico, meanwhile, will enjoy a face full of Oshkosh, complete with claws.
There’s something missing from this page, though. What could it be…oh! I know! Wait for it…
Very nice. I’m finding it difficult to believe that it was not made digitally, actually; the line quality looks a lot like what I get with Macromedia Flash. What sort of pen or brush do you use for inking, Mike?
Hey Esn, I use a Winsor Newton Series 7 size 3 brush. And trust me, it’s traditional. I have no skill whatsoever drawing on a computer. Painting, yes. Drawing, no!
Yeah it’s really hard for me to get a lot of precise control while inking on the computer as well. I need to do it on paper as well. Then I can scan it in and color till the cows come home.
Composition is very nice on this strip. Can’t wait to see what you do with the lighting on either side of the building!
Man you always come up with the greatest panel layouts that really feed the story, this is great. I have to start thinking harder about making better use of panels to make the story more dynamic. You are the master of it!
AND I think I know what I thought was missing in the last three installments, because you brought it back this time: the multi-gradation shading, of the type that’s on Topo’s jacket in the first panel.
That sort of shading looks really nice to me. The three panels before this one didn’t have it, while the ones before them did, which is why I thought that there was a downturn in art quality but couldn’t figure out what made me think that.
