The Gig is Up
Sorry once again for getting this out so late in the week. I had an especially difficult time with this week’s page for some reason. Not sure why.
But I’m happy to say we have a name for the gorilla. Thanks once again to everyone who made a suggestion. I really enjoyed reading them! I somehow managed to squeeze in three of them. I’m sure one name will stick eventually (kinda like how most people call Professor Puff the Professa’).
For those interested in director’s commentary type stuff, there were some tough last minute decisions made on this page. Originally, I thought it’d be hilarious to give “The Giggler” a really high-pitched voice. In comic-form, I suppose a squiggly lower case font would work. Max’s comment in the last panel was something along the lines of “a couple octaves short of a baritone” or whatever more clever thing I could come up with. The high voice was a reference to Mike Tyson, but then I realized this gag was done recently (and was way funnier) in “Up”. So instead, Max is confused by the mention of “ad hoc”… something I never knew the meaning of when I saw them in email headers from the VP at my ol’ corporate job…. I literally thought I was being forwarded mail that originally went to some dude named Ad Hoc… (for those who don’t know, it’s latin for “for this purpose”). There’s also Ad Nauseum, which means “discussed to the point of nausea”. A bit more applicable to the corporate world, yet I never got emails that started off like that.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Tempted to call him Grog.
Once again, the plot thickens.

Nestly: Wow what a name. And I loved Puff’s face as his fish bowl goes flying. xD
Is it just me… or is the writing getting a little harder to read..?

Aww, lookit ‘is cyoot wittle bowtie! Isn’t he just adoooowable?
Sorry, couldn’t help it. It’s out of my system, now.
The skreeeeee and froom panels (#2 and #4) are my favorites this week, but I also really like Max’s expressions in panels 7 and 9, and the Professa’s expression in panel 8.
In all fairness, Puff does have a better hat than Mr. McGrunty.

Nestly, very good call on the text. I tried to switch to a different pen. I’ve been using a felt tip calligraphy pen, and the nib gets a little worn down over time. The pen I tried to switch to is a fountain pen, but the line is too thin and when I reduce the text it just doesn’t read well…. my handwriting was also really poor that week! Thanks for whipping me into shape — I’ve re-handwritten the dialog (as well as tweaked some of the conversation). Hope it reads better!
