Pals

I just realized I’ve spent more time trying to write this blog entry than I did coloring today’s page. It’s definitely one of the more personal pages I’ve done recently, which I don’t often talk about (that is, what makes a page personal). In this case, I wanted to talk about it, which is why I’m having such a hard time writing this blog.

Several rewrites later… we’ll just say today’s page presented one of those rare opportunities where the characters got to break away from plot and simply reflect on the moment, not just within the story, but within my world as well. Much like Topo, I’ve been experiencing a long and difficult journey. Granted, I haven’t crashed through roofs, been rammed into, then squashed by a large bearded pig, nor have I trespassed a city park past curfew to sneak a friend home like Topo has. But I am able to relate to this much-needed moment where Topo gets to enjoy the company of a familiar friend.  Topo also promises to stay the course, which is really me saying this to Swoop, as well as to you, dear reader, that I will not be letting up… of course, the flipside of placing myself in Topo’s (non-existent) shoes is that I’m just as exhausted as he is in the last panel, undeserving as it may be.

Thank you, as always, for bearing with me anyway.

It’s a great strip today, and I think the fact that you connect with it personally makes it all the more poignant.

    Keep up the great work!

    Thanks Steve. :)

Great change of pace from all the frantic mayhem. I needed to catch my breath. I really like the nighttime colors!

I really like today’s strip, also.

Really beautiful work on those nighttime colours.

Beautiful strip. I totally got what you meant in the second panel right away. “I feel like we haven’t hung out just the two of us in forever.” Beautiful.

Undeserving of feeling tired? I would say that fatigue is a natural by-product, even in a labor of love. You are crafting something great here, and anything worthwhile takes effort.

Thank you for sharing this vision with us!

Definitely one of the best looking comics out there.

:) Characters always need moments to reflect on themselves, it adds depth, and nobody I’ve met has ever complained about excess of character depth.
