The Lights Are On…
…but nobody’s home. That’s how I’m feeling on Day Two of my jetlag after my vacation in Greece. Or maybe I’m being stubborn about being back… it was a great (and much needed) break. Either way, I’m really sorry that you guys had to wait so long for a new page. It’s been an unbelievable month - surreal is the best way to describe it. I’ll be able to tell you more about it later.
In other news, I have a bunch of sketches from my trip involving Topo, Mari, and Swoop, and I’ll be putting those up very soon. While they’re not story related, I think you guys will enjoy them.

Yay!
Glad you’re back, but why’d you leave us at such a part? I’ll just have to be patient.

I’m glad you had a good break, welcome back! I hope your jetlag wears off soon. Great page as always. I really like how you’ve captured moonlight vs. indoor light in these panels. I look forward to seeing whatever is captivating Topo!

What is it?! The suspense is unBEARable! (eh? eh? Ya see what I did there? Ursidae master of punish humour at work?)
By the way, is it a little odd that Topo is talking aloud in monologues to himself?

“By the way, is it a little odd that Topo is talking aloud in monologues to himself?”
I do it all the time… I shouldn’t have said that.
But now that you mention it, I haven’t used thought balloons much in the story. I prefer it to feel like an animation, where the thoughts are heard out loud. It seems to happen in quite a few Miyazaki movies, so I take that as a sign that it’s okay for Topo (and myself…) to talk when alone.

Talking to yourself? What? I never do that! *lies*
BUT SERIOUSLY, WELCOME BACK! A surreal month in the life of an artist, based on all the artists who I know that use that phrase means “Something so eventful and awesome it cannot be described nor replicated”…like my watching 50 films in a week at TIFF. Even if it can’t be described, I hope it’s something we’ll get to see the results of very soon.
Besides Esn, thought bubbles aren’t nearly as expressive as speech. Though one could argue that the “Woah…” is a thought or an expression without the use of bubbles.
Oo! And now for an observation on the awesomeness of this page: Panel 7. *points* Blank abstract speech bubble! How cool is THAT?!

Well, the only one that really seems unusual to me is the one in the last panel - that strikes me as dialogue that would take a long time to actually say aloud, but something that you could think very quickly.

I just discovered your comic from the Vimeo “never the task at hand”. It’s great.
If I may ask, what were you putting in with the india ink?
